| Where the kennel name came from... Mishawum, Massachusetts, United States [Place] is in Middlesex County; location is 42°30'9"N 71°8'30"W; elevation is 92 feet; was named in year 1978 [SourceGSP] (From Placesnamed.com) Absorbed by Boston; 1876, Location. Charlestown was the oldest town in the state before it was absorbed by Boston in 1873. It was called Mishawum by the Native Americans. It was incorporated in 1635. The town was named after King Charles I. In 1798 the Charlestown Navy Yard was finished. Its first ship was the USS CONSTITUTION (Old Ironsides) which is still anchored there and open to tourists. To be more personal regarding our kennel name, at the time we made the decision, we only owned three Siberians; Mischa, Osage and Falcon. We immediately decided that a Native American theme was in order since our prime sled dog "Osage" and reason why we launched into this sport was already named after a Native American tribe. The nickname of our first Siberian turns out to be, as I've attached above, a Native American town in Massachusetts: which is also relevant since that is where we lived when we decided that this was our lifestyle of choice. |
